Style Guide: What to Wear in the Amalfi Coast

Deemed and outstanding example of a Mediterranean landscape by Unesco, the Amalfi Coast is one of Italy’s most memorable destinations. Mountains plunge into the sea in a nail-biting vertical scene of precipitous crags, cliff-clinging abodes and verdant woodland.
Located 3.5 hours outside of Rome, the Amalfi Coast is a 31 mile stretch along the southern edge of Italy’s Sorrentine Peninsula, in the Campania region. Made up of 13 pastel-colored fishing villages lined with pebble beaches, lemon blossoms and rugged shoreline, this Mediterranean oasis has become one of the most popular destinations in the world.
Aside from its turquoise seas and cinematic piazzas, the region is home to some of Italy’s finest hotels and restaurants. It’s also one of the country’s top spots for hiking, with well-marked trails providing the chance to escape the star-struck coastal crowds.
To help you plan your Italian getaway, this style guide will give you an idea about what you should pack and wear on your Amalfi Coast Spring/Summer itinerary.
Here we go!!

Amalfi Coast Clothing Style
Italy might well be famous one of the world’s most fashion conscious countries, but that doesn’t mean you have to take 4 trolleys filled with evening dresses, high heels and jewelry when you go there on a holiday.
Italian fashion is classically well-tailored, stylishly put-together, and undeniably glamorous. Style on the Amalfi Coast is no different – particularly if your goal is to look like a local rather than a tourist.
The coast is a prime vacation spot, so this resort-like area tends much more towards “chic” than “casual”. You’ll find the Amalfi Coast to be sophisticated, yet with a relaxed and effortless feel. Silhouettes tend more towards comfort, rather than structure.
This coastal fashion is all about adding flowy dresses, big sunglasses, floppy hats and lots of bikinis to your travel capsule wardrobe. Accessories often take the lead in Italian fashion, and it’s no different on the coast. However, women may change up their focus from bags and shoes to sunglasses, bikinis, wraps and scarves. Keep this in mind when choosing what to wear in the Amalfi Coast.

Amalfi Coast Packing List for Spring and Summer
The Amalfi Coast is the perfect location to try wearing statement pieces you might not want to wear on more casual beaches in other parts of Europe. Compiling your wardrobe with colorful maxi dresses, off-the-shoulder styles, bright kaftans and stylish Brazilian bikinis will suit Amalfi just fine. A few basics are always good to pack: a pair of white jeans with a colorful top or a cute little romper will go a long way.
Packing a glamorous pair of sandals is also a no-brainer when packing for the Amalfi coast. A big floppy hat or straw hat and a pair of Italian sunglasses will protect you from the sun and will keep you stylish.
Even thought you might not be wearing them all the time, put a pair of flip-flops in our bag. On days where you decide to sunbath or swim in the ocean, you’ll need them to get back and forth from the water.
Packing several pairs of stylish Brazilian bikinis and One Piece Swimwear are a must as well. Look for unique pieces like Guria Beachwear’s new ribbed Brazilian bikini that feature gold plated grommets details. As for one piece swimwear go for the Brazilian Scrunch Bandeau One Piece Swimwear paired with a long fluid wrap skirt.

Remember also that very short shorts are not approved of in a number of hotels and restaurants and that you will be refused entry to churches if your legs and arms are not covered.
Whilst on the Amalfi Coast, you will be able to purchase items of clothing such as Positanos pezze: thin and brightly colored garments made from linen and gauze which you could only possibly get away with wearing in Positano (or on a beach).
